Crochet Slouchy Beret – Free Crochet Pattern

 

This Slouchy Beret Free Crochet pattern teaches you how to make a Slouchy Beret using the Faux Stitch and Puff stitch and single crochet combo.

Slouchy Beret – Free Crochet Pattern

For this project you’ll need:

HOOK: 6 mm \ H hook

YARN: 4 ply worsted weight yarn /  10 ply for AU

The skein I used was 100 grams / 250 meters or 273 yards

Make sure the yarn you use is not to thick or stiff.

 

 

 

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = Chain

sl st = Slip Stitch

st = Stitch

sk = Skip

YO= Yarn Over

sc = Single Crochet

dc = Double Crochet

FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet

PS = Puff Stitch

Sc dec = single crochet decrease

Repeat what’s in between * for rest of round.

To Start:

Ch 2

 

Round 1
sc 12 into second ch from hook, working over tail to perform the Chain 2 method like show in this video or you can use the magic loop (12)

 

 

 

Round 2
sc 2 into each stitch around (24)

 

Round 3
sc in all sts (24)

 

Round 4
sc 2 in one stitch , sc 1 in next, repeat for rest of round (36)

 

Round 5
sc 2 in one stitch, sc 1 in next two stitches (sc 2, sc 1 sc 1) (48)

 

Round 6
sc in all sts around (48)

 

Round 7
sc 2 in one stitch, sc 1 into the next three stitches (sc 2, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1) (60)

 

 

Round 8
sc in all sts around (60)

 

Round 9
sc 2 into one stitch, sc 1 into the next four stitches (sc 2, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1) (72)

 

Round 10
sc into all sts around (72)

 

Round 11
sc 2 into one stitch, sc 1 into the next five sts (sc 2, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1,sc 1) (84)

 

Round 12
sc in all sts around

 

Round 13
sc 2 into one stitch, sc 1 into the next six sts ( sc 2, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1) (96)

 

Round 14
sc in all sts around

 

Round 15
sc 2 into one stitch, sc 1 into the next seven stitches ( sc 2, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 1) (108)

 

Round 16
sc in all sts around

You are done with your single crochet increases now

 

 

 

Round 17
ch 1 and doing a DC decrease without the YO in between (see below) go into next stitch,

 

 

 

pull up a loop go into next stitch,

 

pull up a loop

 

then do a double crochet by pulling through 2 loops, YO, pull through last 2 loops

 

 

 

Do this for all sts around, sl st into top of beginning chain two (55 sts)

 

Round 18
ch 2 then * FPDC onto the next post, DC into next stitch. * Repeat for rest of round. (see picture below) sl st into top of beginning chain two.

 

 

It’s just like the squiggly hat if you’ve ever made one if not here is a helpful video showing you how to do this stitch.

 

 

 

Round 19
sl st into first dc of round and ch 2, FPDC into the post under the ch 2 you just did, then dc into next stitch, then FPDC onto next post, DC into next stitch sl st in between the FPDC ignoring the first chain two as if it wasn’t there.

 

Round 20
ch 2 and FPDC onto next post, DC into next stitch, Repeat this pattern. When you get to the end of the round, and sl stitch into the top of the ch 2.

 

Round 21
ch 2, FPDC into the post under the ch 2 you just did, then dc into next stitch, then FPDC onto next post, DC into next stitch sl st in between the FPDC ignoring the first chain two as if it wasn’t there. In other words, you will ch 2 whan starting a round, but you will never end your round using the beginning ch 2, but instead sl st using the post of the FPDC.

 

Rounds 22 – 23
sc into next stitch and sc in all sts (Place marker here to mark first round of sc’s)

 

Round 24
Keep working in one continuous round, move up marker.

sc 5, scdec and repeat for whole round (48 sts)

 

 

NOTE: If it is to tight for you feel free to not decrease as much on round 24,  just make sure your ending stitch number is an even number, so 50, 52, 54, or 56.

 

Round 25

To do the puff stitch for this pattern is as follows:
YO go in through stitch, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
YO go in through stitch, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook)
YO go in through stitch, pull up a loop (7 loops on hook)
Pull through all 7 loops

*PS in next stitch, ch 1, sk a stitch * repeat what is in between *’s for round. Sl st into top of beginning PS.

 

 

 

Bangle 1

 

 

 

Round 26
ch 1 and sc in the skipped stitches from the last round one row down. *sc, ch 1, sk a st * repeat what is in between the *’s. sl st into beginning sc to end round.

 

 

 

Bangle 4 Bangle 2

 

 

Round 27
For this round you will be working your puff stitches to the right of your single crochets. * PS, ch 1, sk a st * Repeat for rest of round. Sl st into top of beginning PS to end round.

 

 

Bangle 6

 

 

Round 28
Ch 1 and sc to the right of the puff stitch just under you. Ch 1 and sc into the stitches to the right of the PS’s if you look at the stitches your working in, you will see they have 2 sections, only separated by a piece of yarn, the PS is worked in the left one and the SC is worked in the right one on the next round.

 

 

Rounds 29 – 34
Rounds 25 and 26 are a set. You will need to do 5 rounds total. You just did two sets, so repeat rounds 25 and 26 three more times. When you’ve finished your sets, it should look like this.

 

 

Slouchy Beret 10

 

Round 35
working into next stitch sc in the next 12 sts, then do a sc increase * sc 12, sc inc * Repeat this pattern until you have 52 sts total, then start round 36. (sc 12, sc inc)

 

Rounds 36 – 37
sc in all sts around (place marker at first sc of round)

 

Round 38
Using the sts two rows down, do an elongated sc. Work one in all sts around. (see picture below)

 

 

Slouchy Beret 2

 

Round 39
sc in all sts around

 

Round 40
Reverse single crochet / crab stitch in all sts around. You do this by working from left to right, doing a single crochet backwards, by pulling up a loop , then YO, go through both loops. For help see tutorial BELOW
